Construction Story – From Beginning to End.  Follow our building adventure…

It all started 3 years ago when we purchased a lot in the city of Murrieta, California. It is in a beautiful quiet neighborhood called Bear Creek, right on the gorgeous green golf course with a lake view. It is located next to the city of Temecula for those of you not familiar where Murrieta is. Temecula is pretty well known for the wineries. Lots of grapevines and wine tasting everywhere in town.

Two years ago we started with the planning of what we wanted to do and build. We finally found someone that we really loved that would design our new home to fit on the lot. Mike was a friend of my husband in business, and after I met him and meeting some other architects, I told my husband that Mike was the one. I just loved him from the start. Mike and I just hit it off right away and I felt very comfortable with him. We hired him and in between all the meetings, we became great friends and have really enjoyed getting to know him more and more, along with his family some. Mike was designing our house on the side from his normal job, so it took him a bit longer than it would have normally for a full time architect, but that was ok with us. We were not in a major hurry. We wanted to make sure that we got everything we wanted in this dream house and LAST home of ours for our future and retirement. Mike definitely did a great job listening to what I wanted and what my husband wanted. I think we got a pretty wonderful looking floor plan and design. I am so glad we chose him. So easy to deal with and so wonderfully talented.

We finally got the plans finished, then we held off for a few months trying to figure out what the economy was going to do, but we saw that things were not going to get any better any time soon, so after putting off the submittal to the City with the plans for approximately 6 months, we decided to go with it and just do it. I just figured that God would help us whatever we did. He knows that we have always been responsible with our finances and I totally have faith in God that he has always helped us whenever we needed it, financially, emotionally and physically. We have been so blessed always.

Dealing with the City of Murrieta was not the quickest. Babysitting them was a major task, but finally we got our permits and have started to build our dream home.

Now that youve read the background on the preconstruction part of the house, my future blogs will be much shorter so I won’t bore you any longer, lol. I will be writing about what goes on during the week with the construction of the house and things are going and show you some pictures so you can follow it if you would like to. Construction is veryyy interesting and I just love it. I truly enjoy watching people build things and I also love the part of supervising, which is what I am doing for the next year or so. Some days are great and others can be really mind boggling and you want to smack some people sometimes too. LOL I know, I remember building my other home 21 years ago and I thought I would never do it again, and here I am doing it again. LOL

We began with my cousins Jesse and Reina meeting my husband and I on the lot at the beginning of June. We met on the lot and held hands and prayed for our lot to be blessed with good things to come and good subcontractors to deal with and that they would also be blessed in whatever way they needed. I wanted to make sure that I gave God the glory for letting us have this wonderful lot and new house to come and how thankful I am to be able to have something so beautiful to share with lots of family and friends when they come over. Lots of parties and get togethers to come I hope. I can’t imagine that big house without parties and get togethers and all of the people that we love that make our life so fun and worth living.

End of June, construction has started. First the retaining walls had to go in at the request of the City of Murrieta Building and Safety. They will be short 2 feet walls on each side of the front of the house the first 8 feet from the curb basically, then it will connect to the higher 5 foot wall that will go around the house on both sides and in the back we will have a wall with wrought iron on the slope to close it all in so the dogs dont get out and we have to anyway, since we are putting in a small pool and/or spa.

Next: Trenching for the footings in the foundation was done.

Next: Backhoe came in for the deep holes that were dug for all of the plumbing needs of the house.

Next: Plumbers will be in next week Monday and Tuesday to put in all the underground plumbing needed.

In between all of these things, other preparations have been going on with temporary power, dealing with SCEdison on getting the electrical design going with them and inspections for everything and scheduling everyone and all the things needed to get started. The beginning always has alot going on, then it starts to move once the building starts, you basically are dealing with the subcontractors and the inspectors and its just a different type of headache/s. lol
